I went to a Great Books college myself, and really wanted my kids to have that kind of foundation - I was thrilled to find Great Books Academy. We're doing a whole schooling program with it. You can, if you wish, do GBA with just the books and syllabi, but they have an online, real-time seminar as well, where the kids and teachers actually hold a discussion class, much as I remember doing in college. We absolutely love it, both for grade school and high school. The kids are challenged both by the books themselves, and by the engagement with the other students and by the teachers' "gadfly" socratic questioning.
