Spectrum - Remember that all the lab supplies are included, and I mean everything (if it's like their Rainbow sets). Apologia kits can also be found but rarely will include everything. Having everything means that the labs really will get done. Just thought I'd mention that part. Friendly chem is not a "to the point" program that you are describing. It's more a "not total booklearning" that you mentioned earlier. The set includes a "teaching book," worksheets, different kinds of flashcards that do things like have different sizes so you can see that a 2 and a 7 are the same as a 9, and a game that's supposed to visualize how the different electrons distribute:
