NO. In fact, a GED will make her look "stupid" (forgive the expression) and take away the high status she has earned as a homeschooled student. She would look like a "drop out" and that never bears well with any college or job search.
Colleges look badly on GEDs. Colleges LOVE homeschoolers and actually seek them out because they are such good students and great citizens.
The best way to graduate her is to keep a record of what she has read and the books she has used (textbooks or otherwise) and notes on her volunteering, hobbies, projects, athletic ventures, any additional classes she took and such. A portfolio complete with dates and photos.
There are tons of books on this subject. Tons of websites on it. Just do searches on "homeschooling through high school".
Homeschoolers are EXCELLENT students and test very high. She has had the best education possible in the best location possible- her home.
Don't do her the major disservice to pressure your niece's family to get a GED for her. They can issue a homemade diploma just fine and it is extremely CREDIBLE. Colleges totally will eat it up.
