I used an older edition, but I think the new one works pretty much the same. At the end of each chapter is a chapter review. If they learn the material on the chapter review, they'll do well on the tests. I even typed up the terms in the chapter review, leaving blank space for answers, and gave my son a copy. Then as he read the text, he'd fill in the sheet as he came to the terms. (They're usually in bold print). Then, all he had to do was answer the other questions, & study over it. It is a typical textbook... sometimes a bit dry. But it gives a good solid Christian understanding to our history. I'm planning to use it again this year with my daughter.
