I have used the latin road with two children now. it is pricey but i have seen it for sale on the sonlight board and welltrained mind forum.

please email me if you have further questions

sevknorr@yahoo.com

i don't know latin and would have a hard time with anyother product. you are suppose to be learning alonside your child and you could, i did for awhile but then with 4 kids..well you know. we did have to call or email the author for help in a few instances and she is so very gracious and helpful! her system works very, very well. my two oldest are pretty average students-no scholars (altho if they wanted to apply themselves :)

my oldest finished the 2nd level and half of the 3rd. )be fore warned the 3rd level really could take a student a yr and a half to 2 yrs to complete!

she took a placement test in college and tested out of 1 1/2 of their latin!!! the last semester is not so much learning as it is reading latin great books and discussing them. She was even then invited to check out the honors program! no credit is given for this on her transcript for collge you are just advanced to the level of placement saving time and money.

well, here is what happened. they told her it was wise if she took a semester of latin over as the class she tested into was not until the spring (small private college) but after taking the first class she found out quickly that they were about 4-5 chapters ahead and moving at a chapter and 1/2 a week!! ohhhh if she had only finished barbara's program!!!! her response to the honors class intro was why do i want to read all those boring dry books. boy when she matures will she be kicking herself!!!!

the prof told us that rarely has he seen kids pass this test and the tests are not fool proof.

so i would say that this program is great!!!! it moves at a slow pace for them to get it! they keep a notebook -lots of copy work and have audio to listen to. it really really gets them ready for college level work but introducing the study habits they will need. it is jsut so great for their minds and english grammar and vocab.
i would also say that in reading the reviews some had mentioned that the teacher should have a good command of english grammar. we do here and the kids just got a good review of it with this program.

don't be put off if one of the students needs to move slower
well let me know if you have other questions as i do like to ramble :)
