and the main participants were 8th graders. My son played Gore; his best friend played Bush. Both boys were responsible for researching their character's positions and devising arguments to defend such when debated. Other students prepared questions to present to the candidates along with follow-up questions if necessary. The debate was presented to the rest of the local homeschoolers (various ages) and parents and was followed up by a "voting booth" where students could cast a "presidential vote". It was a great learning experience and tons of fun!

For mock trial ideas, check out You Decide! by Critical Thinking Press. There might be some good ideas in there.
