As the last poster suggested, Sonlight does have lots of good questions. We have found them insightful and thought-provoking. We have also used Notgrass' materials and he provides questions for each "chapter" in his spiral bound book. Similar to a text, but more interesting with added readings in primary or source documents and historical literature. Progeny Press study guides (for lots of historical fiction and classics) provide great questions for discussion and/or essay. (We've liked their questions much better than Total Language.)

You didn't mention which time period you were studying. If it is US History, you might also look at Critical Thinking Through US History published by Critical Press. These lessons are quite detailed and have tons of questions on both sides of various issues. If you are studying the 1300's-1600's, Greenleaf's Famous Men of the Renaissance and Reformation has really wonderful discussion questions and references. (You could also add in Christian History Made Easy (13 weeks of lessons) by Dr. Timothy Paul Jones for a complete study of not only the era, but church history as well. Comes with a leader's guide containing questions, activities, and suggested resources.)

HTH, and feel free to email me with questions or comments. Blessings,
