Jodi, I used AWOA with my then 7th and 9th grade daughters. I emailed the publisher, and she sent me a lenghty response on how to use the unit study with a 9th grader. Basically, you use more advanced reading resources and require more in their writing. At that time, we also used Apologia general science. I didn't choose to use the other books in the AWOA series with my high schooler because I found co-ops and other resources that were more age and grade appropriate. Plus, she was ready to try something new.
On another note, have you seen the Konos high school unit studies? You may want to look at these. I wish I had known about them earlier. I might have used them myself. There are other high school unit studies and literature studies out there. Maybe someone else can recommend some.
