WriteShop or Put That in Writing or Format Writing. Don't know if they're all self-directing. However, kids who struggle with writing probably need more help than just reading something out of a book anyway.

I'm actually doing what one of the other posters mentioned this year with my 9th grade ds, which is using the Write at Home program. I agree with you that writing is something our kids all need to learn, and I didn't seem to be getting very far with him, so I signed him up for the 9th grade one year course at Write At Home. I talked with the main guy (I think he was the main guy) at our hs convention this year and really liked what he had to say, and it sounded as if they really work with the kids right where they are and encourage them to make progress. I thought my son would work better for someone else in this area.
