I read, "To Kill a Mockingbird" WITH my 9th grade son last year. I chose to read along with him because of the subject matter. At the time, I used a wonderful website that a highschool teacher was using for her classes. It had all the vocabulary words organized, chapter questions, quizzes, etc. Of course, I am unable to locate it now. However, I am including a link to a page that had good discussion questions and plans for you to follow. You can easily flip through the book and pick out spelling and vocabulary words if you want to combine subjects. Hope this is atleast some help to you.
