Subject:         Grammar and punctuation for a right-brained girl
Date: August 21, 2008 at 6:41 pm PST

My daughter is a junior this year, and still does not have a solid grasp on grammar, punctuation and usage. She is a definite right-brained person--very creative and artsy. Math, spelling, grammar--pretty much anything rules based is a challenge for her. I'm trying to find something that will get her where she needs to be for college and college entrance exams. Over the past 11 years, we have used Shurley English (2 years), Weaver's Wisdom Words, LLATL, Grammar with a Giggle, Great Editing Adventure, Grammar Keys, English Grammar 101 and Winston Grammar. Shurley probably did the best for retention but it was soooo time-consuming. She has pretty much disliked everything we've used. As far as content and organization, her writing is very interesting and fairly well organized. She transitions between paragraphs well. (We've used IEW for years.) It's just the mechanics that is giving her fits.

So does anyone have any suggestions for something that might fit the bill without breaking the bank? I also have an 8th grader (middle brained, loves math/science, great at memorization). Ideally I'd love to be able to do something with both of them together (which I know is a challenge given their different learning styles).

TIA for any help.
