I was just looking on my shelf and remembered that one of the best things we did for higher math was viewing The Teaching Company's course called Change and Motion: Calculus Made Clear. There are 24 half-hour, rather entertaining lectures that really round out an understanding of calculus concepts in a practical, non-technical manner. We did this the year after Saxon Calculus, but it would probably be better if done concurrently. My ds did fine in Saxon Calculus but didn't feel like he had a firm grasp on the ideas until he viewed these lectures. Then college calculus was easy; he felt much better prepared than most of his public and privately-schooled fellow engineers. Hope this helps somebody! You can get these DVDs on their website. We liked these so well that we're trying a new one this year for our younger ds, The Joy of Mathematics. I love math, but I think anybody could benefit from watching a really great math teacher make math come alive.
