My sons used this with some help from me during their first year with the program, but then almost nothing once they were familiar with the format and expectations. About all I would do is orally drill the definitions and study guides questions with them before the test. (They would have already written out the study guide answers - I just wanted to make sure it was solidly in their brains.) I never made out lesson plans, just told them they had about 2 weeks to do a module. Just a thought (depending on the interest and maturity of your boys): could they both do the same science text and thus have each other to drill or study with? Experiments might be more fun as well. I know that here in NY many 9th graders use the Physical Science text since it corresponds to the material taught in the 9th grade public schools and then Bio, Chem, and Physics correspond as well. Caution: There is a big jump between the Phy. Sci. text and the Biology text (Apologia's 9th grade textbook). It helped my sons to have already gone through 1-2 years of Apologia before they tackled the Biology book.
