What Your 1st Grader Needs to Know (Fundamentals for a Good First -Grade Education) by E.D. Hirsch Jr. What Your 2nd Grader Needs to Know (Fundamentals for a Good Second-Grade Education) by E.D. Hirsch Jr. Both of these books are 310 pages, 1991 paperback books from the Core Knowledge series. They cover Language Arts, Geography, History, Fine Arts, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences and the topics under each area that can be covered in the appropriate grade to give a child a well rounded education at that level.
