Traditional Logic 1 Materials

A logic course for all ages but designed for use as young as 7th grade, Traditional Logic 1 is an in-depth study of the classical syllogism. Along with a basic understanding of the Christian theory of knowledge, the text presents the four kinds of logical statements, the four ways propositions can be opposed, the three ways in which they can be equivalent, and the seven rules for the validity of syllogisms.

This comprehensive but easy-to-use course includes both text and key and can be used as either a one-semester or one-year course.

Traditional Logic 2 Materials

This advanced formal logic course by Martin Cothran is a continuation of Traditional Logic 1. It covers the four figures of the traditional syllogism, the three forms of rhetorical arguments (called enthymemes), the three kinds of hypothetical syllogisms, the four kinds of complex syllogisms, as well as relational arguments.

The course also includes numerous examples of arguments from the Bible, Lewis Carroll, Isaac Watts, St. Augustine and Tertullian, as well as extended case studies of famous arguments throughout history, such as Rene Descartes' famous enthymeme: "I think, therefore, I am"; C. S. Lewis' disjunctive syllogism proving the deity of Christ; Plato's hypothetical argument concerning the power of love; Christ's conjunctive syllogism: "You cannot serve both God and mammon"; David Hume's famous dilemma stating the problem of evil; the stoic Seneca's justification of the virtuous life; and St. Thomas Aquinas' cosmological argument for the existence of God.

Traditional Logic 2 uses the same tried and true format found in Traditional Logic 1, and includes enough exercises to ensure that the student masters the material. In addition to the case studies of famous arguments, Traditional Logic 2 has added writing assignments in each chapter to help you integrate the study of logic with other subjects.

Payment: We gladly accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Paypal, checks, and money orders.

Shipping: Media mail shipping is free for orders of $50 or more within the U.S., and insurance is included. Smaller orders are charged a flat shipping fee of $4. Most orders go out by the next business day.

APO/FPO Shipping: Orders of $50 or more are shipped via Media Mail to APO/FPO addresses free of charge. However, since this shipping method can take weeks to reach military families overseas, we encourage them to consider purchasing a Priority Mail upgrade if delivery time is an important issue.

Sales Tax: Arkansas residents please add 7% sales tax.
