Set of four books:

Favorite Poems Old and New: Selected For Boys and Girls by Helen Ferris with illustrations by Leonard Weisgard

Hardback with dust jacket in mylar, c. 1957; I believe this is the first edition. The binding is separating slightly at the end of the book. This has been reissued in hardback and now sells new for $26.99.

plus Tomie dePaola’s Mother Goose

Hardback in good/very good condition. Sells new for $25.99. “Tomie dePaola's collection of traditional rhymes is a visual treat for both children and parents. His cheerful, humorous style enlivens 200 rhymes that star both the familiar Mother Goose cast of characters and those not as well known. Some pages are devoted to one rhyme--including all the verses--while other pages feature a variety of shorter rhymes or thematic groupings (such as verses about weather). Amidst the nursery rhymes are American poems such as "Yankee Doodle" and "Hush Little Baby," along with traditional poems such as "Three Little Kittens." This collection is a delightful introduction to poetry as well as an entertaining, comprehensive Mother Goose book.”

plus Oxford Book of Poetry for Children, compiled by Edward Blishen with illustrations by Brian Wildsmith

Hardback with dust jacket; jacket has some wear but the book is in very good condition. For ages 6-11. From Amazon: "Inspire young children to move from nursery rhymes to serious (but not solemn!) verse with this burgeoning collection that includes poems by Lewis Carroll, Christina Rossetti, Shakespeare, and many others. The illustrations reflect the vitality of the verses. Edward Blishen, who compiled the anthology, was a teacher for 15 years, and the volume has been spectacularly illustrated by Brian Wildsmith." Original price was $25.00.

Linnea in Monet’s Garden by Christina Bjork and Lena Andersen

From Publisher’s Weekly: “Linnea, a fresh-faced European girl with a mop of black hair and a white smock, gives a solid lesson in art history in the gentlest way, through a first-person account. Her story is like a scrapbook, reliving a trip she took to Paris and Giverny to learn about Monet's water-lily paintings. Airy, light-filled watercolors showing Linnea in Monet's environment are juxtaposed with period photographs of the artist and reproductions of the paintings themselves. The focus is always on the specific. Monet's brushstrokes are examined (Linnea terms them "splotchy"). A section is devoted to expressionism: "Even stone walls could shimmer sometimes." Also included are Monet's biography, a family tree and a brief guide to Paris. But, it is the sense of being there, and Linnea's own enthusiasm, that carries the book.” Ages 7-up. Copyright 1987 Reed Business Information, Inc.
