Two books by Rosemary Sutcliff: Black Ships Before Troy: The Story of the Iliad

"The late Rosemary Sutcliff always knew how to humanize the epic heroes without diminishing their power. Now, with the same kind of lyrical prose that distinguished her Arthurian trilogy, she takes on Homer's Iliad. People whose names we all know--Helen, Hector, Achilles, Odysseus, etc.--are all woven into one great story, with the jealous gods taking sides in the Greeks' 10-year siege of the city of Troy." Hardback with library binding, ex-lib, in very good condition.

plus Sun Horse, Moon Horse

Tells the story of the White Horse of Uffington. Out of print title, hardback, ex-lib, first US edition, in good condition. Asking for $11.00ppd for the set of two books.

Lewis and Clark for Kids: Their Journey of Discovery with 21 Activities by Janis Herbert

“Following Meriwether Lewis and William Clark’s Corps of Discovery as they navigate the muddy Missouri River and begin a great adventure, this activity book is set against the background of the vast North American continent. It takes children from President Jefferson’s vision of an exploratory mission across a continent full of unique plants and animals through their dangerous and challenging journey into the unknown to the expedition’s triumphant return to the frontier town of St. Louis. Twenty-one activities bring to life the Native American tribes they encountered, the plants and animals they discovered, and the camping and navigating techniques they used. A glossary of terms and listings of Lewis and Clark sites, museums, and related websites round out this comprehensive activity book.”

Beowulf by Kevin Crossley-Holland with illustrations by Charles Keeping

“This is the story of a young man who travelled far across the sea to fight two terrifying monsters - one who could rip a man apart and drink his blood, the other who lived like a sea-wolf at the bottom of a dark, blood-stained lake. The young hero's name was Beowulf, and his story, first written in Anglo-Saxon in the eighth century, has become one of the world's most famous epics. Kevin Crossley-Holland retells the story for children in quick-paced, rhythmical prose accompanied by Charles Keeping's striking illustrations. Together they bring to life the beauty and power of one of the first great English poems.”

Hardback, very sturdy library binding, in very good/excellent condition. The paperback of this edition sells for $13.95; asking for $8.00ppd for this hardback copy. NOW $7.00ppd.

Set of two books: The Original Picture Puzzle: Can You Spot the Differences? plus The Ultimate Picture Puzzle: Can You Spot the Differences?

From an Amazon review: “For the most part the puzzles involve two pictures of the same thing, with the second picture having a number of changes from the first picture. The changes can range from simple things like a person added to the picture to hard to spot things like a shirt being a different color. There are also several "cut up puzzles" in which the editors took a photo, cut it into 4, 6, 12 or 18 pieces, rearranged the pieces, numbered them, and you have to figure out the correct order of the pieces to solve the puzzle. There are also some puzzles with six pictures, five of which are identical and you have to find the one that is different.”

These are from Life Magazine and sell for $10.99 and $11.99 respectively. They are good at
stretching the brain in a fun way. Paperbacks in very good condition; asking for $8.00ppd for the set.

Brian’s Hunt by Gary Paulsen

“Millions of readers of Hatchet, The River, Brian’s Winter, and Brian’s Return know that Brian Robeson is at home in the Canadian wilderness. He has stood up to the challenge of surviving alone in the woods. He prefers being on his own in the natural world to civilization.

When Brian finds a dog one night, a dog that is wounded and whimpering, he senses danger. The dog is badly hurt, and as Brian cares for it, he worries about his Cree friends who live north of his camp. His instincts tell him to head north, quickly. With his new companion at his side, and with a terrible, growing sense of unease, he sets out to learn what happened. He sets out on the
