:) I was thinking the same thing. Highly intelligent child. My brother was similar. Very bored, some work looked like it was a small child, the rest showed how smart he was. I wonder if some of the work you are assigning him is insulting him, so he "goofs off" with it so he is doing it in an interesting way to him.
My son had similar issues, where he wouldnt answer a question. It was a matter of discipline. It took probably a year to get him over it. So frustrating.
Once my son started doing more service work in the community he was able to see the whole world at work which made his "bored" work a reality of life to be done. (Ive never discussed this with him, but my husband has seen it as well.)
We did however talk to him about discipline to do what he was assigned so we could move on. And respect to his parents time to do the work assigned.
