I am ready to throw in the towel! I feel like a failure as a homeschool mom. I have 3 kids, two of which are in high school. My oldest (junior) just took SAT and his math scores were barely adequate-and he wants to go into engineering!! I'm tired of constantly riding him about getting his work done. He doesn't put forth effort. He's very intelligent and there is no doubt that he has the ability to grasp the concepts... he just is lazy and won't do the work to get there. He's 17 and a junior. He will be 18 in Sept, as he begins his Senior year. Do I just let him fail and suffer the consequences, or put him in public school and let whatever happens happen (btw, we are in a terrible school district with gangs, low performance).
I'm tired... tired of being the "bad cop" and dad the "good cop". He's content to spend HOURS learning whatever interests him (usually something on the computer-which he is grounded from until he gets caught up). I don't want to seem him become a 30 yr old living in his parents house because he's too unmotivated to do anything different. He had NO interest in getting his driver's license (we MADE him). He will waste HOURS staring into space just to avoid doing his work. I'm ready to kick him out and let him experience REAL life!!! I end almost every day in tears, then prayer, then more tears!
