I have been homeschooling now for 5 years. My dd is 17 and will graduate this year, my ds is 13 and in 7th and my step-son is 11 and we put him back in public this year.
The reason we put him back is because he was oppositional defiant and was throwing screaming fits to the point that my other two couldn't get their work done.
Now my 13-y-old wants to go back. He says he has never liked homeschooling (we pulled them out when he was going into 3rd grade). I have asked him what he doesn't like about it. "Everything." He doesn't like Math, we have tried Abeka, Bob Jones, Saxon and now are using Math-U-See. He hates Grammar, this is the first real year that I have had him doing Grammar.
We tried Unit Studies this year and he didn't like those because he had to use the computer.
He tries to get out of doing his work and doesn't really like school at all.
I don't know whether to put him back or not. I told him at the beginning of this year that if he would give it a shot and see if he liked it better and didn't by the end of the year that he could go back next year.
Now what do I do? Our school system here is terrible. They are on an academic watch because of such low test scores.
I don't know whether to try a new approach and don't know which one to try. He wanted to play basketball and couldn't on the public teams, so we signed him up at the YMCA to play.
He wants to be around other kids his age and has one friend only. We are involved in church but he doesn't want any part of it.
I am just frustrated and very hurt not wanting him to go back. I quit my job to be home with my kids and now my daughter is going to be going away to college and he wants to go back to public.
What do I do?
