The DVDs are the "visual" course taught by the author, Leigh Lowe. You can play it on your computer, if you have a DVD/CD combo, or your child can watch it on TV with a standard DVD player that is plugged into your TV. The pronunication CD is only "audio" and not visual. It can be played on your computer with speakers on, of course, or on any CD player, such as the one in your car if you have one. Are they both necesseary? That's up to you. You could use the DVD as the actual course and the CD when you are traveling or as a standalone practice help. I belive that when you purchase the the DVD set the audio CD is also included. Or you may buy separately, depending upon your needs. Hope that helps.
