Welcome to my world!
I understand what you are going through, I experience the same thing with my 8 year old!..

I have found that flexibility works best. Luckily my dd loves math, but I have daily struggles when it comes to her reading and writing! She is very bright as well, and is reading and writing above grade level. Getting her to do her work is another story! She can't be bothered with writing!

I have found that breaking up the assignment into small "chunks" helps. For example, I will take her writing assignment and break it up into daily assignments, so by the end of the week she will have completed her overall project. Another thing that really helps is giving her a goal and letting her have control on when she works on it. For example, she is working on learning her multiplication. I told her if she knew her time tables (1-9's) by her birthday she would receive a special treat. Also, I printed out a book log and she gets a star for every hour that she reads.

My dd seems to do better when she has a sense of control. I know how frustrating it can be, hang in there!
