We adopted our grandson and it was fairly painless. Our daughter didn't want to be a mother and she didn't want to give him to anyone outside our family and we were already so in love with him. He spends the night with her and her husband now and then and she doesn't seem to want to interfere with the way we are raising him even though I know she doesn't agree on some stuff. I think for it to work there has to totally mutual agreement. He knows he's adopted even though we had him on our own since before he was year old. He has lived with us since birth.
