I've adopted 10--mostly older international. Remeber several things--it takes 6-7 years to actually THINK in a new language as cf. speaking it well. Secondly--these kids aren't coming from the middle class of their country of origin so there are always major genetic/nutritional etc issues/most do not come from a milieu that encourages learning/it wears anyone out to adapt to new family/new country etc and as someone mentioned--they have the rest of their life. And yes--ALL of mine are behind/YES I have to repeat etc.
