I just wanted to comment about something we heard in training. Many people adopt overseas, with the notion that whether it is an infant or an older child, it will not have the "difficulties" a waiting child from the US will have. Many adoptive parents end up disillusioned to find that not the case at all. I read on one board that a woman was dealing with a RAD child from overseas--but they were never told about the RAD prior to placement--and that the child was told by the orphanage staff that the best place to be adopted from was the USA because they would have everything they ever wanted. So she (the child) was very demanding when she didn't get her way. I also read about a family who adopted an infant from overseas--and the child could never attach properly. I read that book, "Primal Wound", and that talked about how most children, even if removed at birth, feel this void. I guess some are better able to handle it than others. Prayer is usually the best thing you can cling to, no matter where you adopt from, and no matter the age of the child placed with you. Blessings!
