We don't offer medical advice here, but we often get questions about protein, especially from body bulders and marathoners.
First of all, we do not recommend taking any protein powders or supplements. Many health problems in the USA are caused by excess protein. The typical American consumes about three times more protein than is needed for optimum health.
Body builders and triathletes may benefit from slightly increased protein consumption, but not nearly as much as most Americans consume. We recommend that it come from food sources: more legumes (beans, lentils, peas) and whole grains.
For lowering total and LDL cholesterol, see our Healing Heart Foundation website (link at the top of this page). The FAQ has a brief summary of the recommended foods.
