An enlarged heart can be caused by a large number of things, among them prolonged high blood pressure, valve problems, septal defects (an inherited condition) and heart failure. In many cases it isn't a cause for serious concern and it may not require any treatment.

The two questions most likely to give you the information you need are: What caused the condition and what can you do to have it less likely to negatively impact your life.

Whatever the answers, following a lifesytle pattern we recommend, one designed to prevent heart disease, should be beneficial.
