Aspartame is composed of two amino acids, aspartic acid and the methyl ester of phenylalanine, which in themselves are are compatable with a vegan lifestyle.
The variety of myths about aspartame and Nutra-Sweet, the brand name it usually appears under, is almost legendary. Aspartame's most significant danger is for people with a rare genetic disorder called phenylketonuria.
