Thanks for that. Its exactly the answer I was hoping for.
I was on an ornish style reversal program for a few years and did very well on it, but upon examination, I made MANY compromises, yet felt that I was quite compliant. And in truth I was doing pretty well. Low choesterol, felt good etc.
However, I fell off the wagon for nearly two years for reason not worth going into, but now I'm back on, but in a very strict way on Esselstyn.
Even as strict as I'm trying to be, every time I turn around I find that an earnest effort is not quite spot on. For example I had a soy hot dog today with a bit of mustard (as state in another message). I was eating it on a whole grain hot dog bun, but I looked more closely at the ingredients: high fructose corn syrup was listed in the bread...albeit not high up, but there all the same.
Now I'm going to try and find a hot dog bun that doesn't have any, which in Cleveland is no small thing. Bottom line: all sorts of things I used to do are off limits.
Why? That part I'll tell you. I had an incident about 11 days ago. Chest pain that was unrelated to exercise. I had a resting EKG that was normal, but one reading was borderline.
It was my wake up call, and I suddenly realized that what I'd been doing was profoundly stupid, and I'm back on the wagon and feeling so much better 10 days later.
My Wife: a devout meat eater, is nevertheless a wonderful person who wants me to be healthy, so she's been fixing Esselstyn Recipes, and also recipes from your web site. I'm on the right road now.
