Most egg substitutes, such as Egg Beaters, are actually nothing more than egg whites with some color and flavor added. They can be cooked and added to recipes in much the same way as whole eggs. Although without the yolk there is no cholesterol, it has about the same amount of animal protein as a whole agg.

Egg replacers are made from materials that have no egg in them. EnerG brand, the most popular vegetarian egg replacer, is made from starches. It is a powder that when mixed with water, can be used to replace the binding quality of eggs in some recipes and in many baked goods.
