Green tea (without sugar) is no problem between meals. There's some evidence that it may be beneficial in reversing heart disease.

Regarding carbohydrates: there is ample scientific research to indicate that whole grains can be safely consumed until hunger goes away (but not until one feels over-stuffed). It is important to avoid processed and refined foods and grains, including breads made with them. So eating whole grain breads made without oil, milk or eggs should not be a problem, especially if one does not gain unwanted weight.

Many raw vegetables (celery, carrots, lettuce) can help abate hunger as between-meal snacks. But too much fruit can raise sugar levels higher than desired. One or two servings of fruit for desert is OK, but one should limit them between meals.
