Although a small amount of sodium is needed in everyone's diet, most Americans consume 3 or 4 times more salt than is advised, leading to a number of health problems. Many plant foods have a small amount of sodium naturally in them, so there's no need to add salt, except for taste.
Since salt is an acquired taste, it doesn't take much time to learn to go with little or no added salt, which is our recommendation.
