Sabrina
and I often receive nice letters from VegSourcers asking what they
can do to help out, for which we are very grateful. Our guests are
inevitably generous and kind. Some even offer to send us $$$ donations,
which is very sweet, albeit unnecessary. We didn’t start this site
to take money from our guests, whom we perceive as sort of an extended
family. VegSource is and always has been a labor of love, and while
we don’t accept cash donations, we do have a lot of angels from
all over the world who help us out in a variety of other ways.
If
you’re looking to express appreciation to VegSource, we
have an easy way for you to do so -- join EarthSave International,
a non-profit organization we ourselves are deeply committed to.
If you just have a desire to join a great organization which does
a lot of good for you and the planet, we would give you the same

EarthSave
does very effectively on the ground what VegSource attempts to do
on the net; namely, creating community, providing support and education,
and helping people transition toward a diet which is healthy for
you, for the planet and for all creatures on it.
EarthSave
is concerned with issues of providing accurate information about
diet and health, about the environmental impact of dietary choices,
and compassion. Its thousands of dedicated volunteers work hard
and selflessly to spread the Earthsave message.
Founded
in 1989 in response to John Robbins' powerful book, "Diet for a
New America," EarthSave has over 40 chapters in the US with a dozen
more opening in the next few months. There are also chapters in
Canada, and new ones opening in Asia, Australia and Germany in 2000.

In
addition to many educational activities, local EarthSave chapters
often have regular potlucks, for members and prospective members
to meet and mix with others interested in issues of diet, and to
share tips, info and support. Earthsave is an educational, social
and activism network – with a very big heart.
EarthSave’s
president is the old Mad Cowboy himself, Howard Lyman. Howard was
Oprah Winfrey’s co-defendant in the "food disparagement"
lawsuit brought by the Texas cattlemen (Howard and Oprah won). If
you haven’t met or don’t know Howard, join EarthSave; get to know
him much better.
EarthSave’s
mission is:
to promote food choices that are healthy for people and for
the planet. We educate, inspire and empower people to shift
toward a plant-based diet and to take compassionate action for
all life on Earth.
The
organization is basically educational in nature, working internationally,
nationally and through local chapters to get the word out and to
help people discover alternatives to the Standard American Diet.
Programs
slated for 2000 include the Veg Pledge (a fun program to challenge
friends and families to shift toward a healthier diet), Taste of
Health festivals, and other enlightening initiatives.
One
year memberships are $35 for individuals, $50 for families or $20
for students or people "living lightly." You will receive a subscription
