THIS IS A VERY URGENT CAMPAIGN .
The 55th Annual International Whaling Commission (IWC)
meeting, will take place during the week of the 16th June 2003.
All meetings will be held in the Estrel Hotel and Convention Centre,
Sonnenalle 225, 12057, Berlin , Germany.
At the meeting opening Monday, anti-whaling nations are set to
submit the so-called Berlin Initiative, which is aimed at beefing up
the conservation role of the IWC.

German Consumer Minister Renate Kuenast, who is to launch the
IWC meeting, called for more protection for whales. Germany is
one of around 19 countries which have signed a so-called 'Berlin
Initiative'
aimed at beefing up the conservation role of the IWC. Its supporters
see the proposal, which would need a simple majority of the IWC's
49 members, as crucial to ensuring the long-term protection of whales.
It calls for creation of an IWC conservation committee to draft a
set of measures to protect whales and to set up a trust fund for
conservation-oriented research.
The pro-whaling countries insist that whale stocks, particularly
of minke, are robust enough to withstand limited hunting.
They want the IWC to set up a scheme(RMP) allowing commercial
whaling but based on catch quotas that would vary depending
on environmental changes, season and whale numbers.

then the great whales will eventually be doomed.
3: PLEASES HELP TO SET UP A WHALE SANCTUARY
IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC and SOUTH ATLANTIC :
Australia and New Zealand are asking the IWC to set up a
whale sanctuary in the south Pacific, and Argentina and Brazil
are making a similar proposal for the south Atlantic.
Such proposals need a three quarters majority to come into force,
have been defeated for the last three years and Japan remains
strongly opposed.
4: Please stop Japan and Norway each country is now killing
500-700 whales each year by using the "Scientific Research"
as an Excuse for cruel commercial whaling.
Japan and Norway are indeed Eco-Terrorists.
5: PLEASE STOP KILLING THE MINKE WHALES.
6: PLEASE STOP RMS (REVISED MANAGEMENT SCHEME)
which is the scheme to resume the commercial whaling.
7: PLEASE HELP TO DEVELOP WHALE WATCHING
