Description:
One day while sitting in a medical office waiting room, I picked up a photocopied newsletter written by Dr. John McDougall. This was back in the 1980's, a time when I was just beginning to experiment with a vegetarian diet. I was instantly drawn to Dr. McDougall's message that a plant-based, no-oil-added diet was optimum for human health, and read the newsletter front to cover several times. This was my introduction to a vegan diet and although I'd like to say I never looked back, the journey wasn't always that easy for me. After a few false starts, it finally took a medical crisis to strike my husband 8 years ago before I finally took this lesson to heart.
Now, all things vegan are my passion! I love to cook, try new recipes, and I especially like to veganize recipes that originally contained animal products. My latest project is cooking from Robin Robertson's cookbook "1000 Vegan Recipes", but with a twist - since I strive to keep to the McDougall tenants of oil free, I am adapting Robin's delicious recipes and documenting the results in my blog, "My Adventures Testing 1000 Vegan Recipes" (http://testing-1000vr.blogspot.com).
Originally from Sacramento, California, I now live and travel full time with my husband in our 5th wheel trailer. We've been on the road since 2007 and are thoroughly enjoying exploring these great United States. Home is now wherever we park it!
Good article! I've always felt that so many reports on the health benefits of nuts, olive oil, low-fat milk, etc, are based on improvements seen primarily when people replace SAD (Standard American Diet, or JUNK)foods with these items. It was great to see this validated in the scientific literature. Thanks for this!

That is a fascinating article, thanks for the link!
