Long-time vegan runner, the local newspaper gave me the honor of sports story of the year (2010). Why? Because my mom, aunt and both sisters had breast cancer. Tampa Bay Times (formerly St. Petersburg Times) had me on cover in advance of Tampa's VegFest. (profile pix)
As a former 2-time Emmy and National Press Club award winning TV investigative reporter, dodging the gene pool bullets has been the investigative report of my life. Add to that, all primary family members my age and older have/had major heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis (females) and Alzheimer's. After leaving TV I was a fully licensed Wall Street financial consultant specializing on socially responsible investing, and realized how eating plants could save big bucks. The book idea was born.
You'd think researchers would be lined up to study me. But alas, no money in broccoli. I'm still available, if any docs are reading...
Fascinating read. Thanks for your analysis. Where does this put Dr. Fuhrman's Eat to Live diet in the "Does it Work?" column? I've long described his program as the vegan (if you do it that way) Atkins. Since I did/read Atkins several times, that was my observation. Is that correct in your opinion?
