Healthiest grocery store? A corporation like Whole Foods that bashes national health care legislation doesn't even belong on the list, let alone deserve to be ranked #1. "Health" is more than just "eating properly." A grocery chain that is opposed to providing health care for those who can't purchase it is, by definition, NOT interested in the "health" of its customer base (or of anyone else).

I got ORIGINAL Vegenaise from Whole Foods market about year ago and canola oil and soy protein are included in ingredients.
All canola oil are genetically modified except organic canola oil and also all soy bean products are genetically modified unless made from organic soybeans.
When I contacted follow your heart, I had response from this company and what I found out is only ingredients of ORIGINAL VENENAISE are unchanged and all other products are organic.
Is this mean ORIGINAL VEGENAISE is made of genetically modified canola oil and soy?
Follow your heart company sold ORIGINAL VEGENAISE to kraft company.
We need to be careful when we shop at Whole Food to avoid genetically modified foods.
My daughter gave me canola oil but she said it is organic canola oil from Whole Food.
I don't know why, I still hesitate to use it.
I just want to avoid canola oil, cotton seeds oil, corn and soy products unless made from organic corn and soy beans.
Whole Food is ok but I don't think this market deserves top rating.
I had hoped to read about TEN best stores somewhere. This info may have been buried somewhere - but it's far from obvious. Whole Foods is ONE company. Where are others such as Trader Joes mentioned? Trader Joes is a great company in minimizing arty-crafty overpriced counter-cultural hype in their products. In Germany ALDI and other "name" food chains feature a great assortment of "BIO" (organic) foods without inflating the prices excessively.
TRADER JOES BELONGING TO ALDI NOT WELL KNOWN:
MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT WHOLE FOODS.
I find the Whole Foods CEO giving our current USA Sickness Care "Health Care" system - which pays doctors for procedures rather than results - a pass very offensive. Repeating inappropriate slogans about "Government Takeover" or "Obama Care" or "Socialized Medicine" such as I've heard in various mean-spirited ignorance-based talks by Mr. Mackey not helpful in a rational critique of our HORRIBLE USA system wherein we are held hostage to insurance and drug companies as we spend twice as much as other MODERN countries for half the results. Public sector NON-PROFIT health plans should not be demonized using simplistic slogans. I'd certainly agree with Mr. Mackey about personal responsibilty being paramount - BUT we differ greatly in For-Profit vs. Non-Profit options as to what best serves our USA population. The recent "Insurance and Drug Company Enrichment Law" is an insult to America. Advocates of a "single-payer" not for profit honest national health plan were not heard from.
I agree with Rethinking 2000 about a genuinely ethical rational National Health Plan. In defense of Whole Foods, I find it very good that they are working with Rip Esselstyn and Joel Fuhrman to promote healthy life styles.

I would respectfully suggest that swaninlake consider avoid adding ANY oil in recipies. For starters search "Brachial Artery Tourniquet Test" (500 hits) and "Caldwell Esselstyn" (28,600 hits including 150 videos) for reasons why. This is a hot topic.
