Who cares if Palin wants to speak her mind about her beliefs on meat? If you live the vegetarian or vegan lifestyle, you know she is just ill-informed and a product of her society. I am confident enough in my choices as a 22 year vegan that I don't need to get inflamed or all righteous every time someone makes a comment about my choices or states something opposite of my beliefs.
Discussion leads to understanding and although she may well be advocating canabilism and pointless animal murder as a God given right, she is not upsetting me.
I would be careful treading the razors edge of the whole ethical argument you tried to corner Jeff into. If you can honestly say that none of the money you spend supports unintended ethical consequences, then you should start a web page and write a book to share your secret, special understanding with the rest of us unenlightened ones.

Life is challenging enough already without burdening ourselves with emotional reactions to the actions or words of others who choose a different path. You are not responsible for changing anyone but yourself.

If you choose to believe that you are responsible for changing other people to think the way you do and for getting upset each time people disagree with you, then do that.
The last thing we need is for vegans to attack other vegans for not trying to convince everyone to be vegan or for not getting upset when someone like Palin makes a disparaging ill-informed remark. Live by example and others will follow your example if they choose, but we are all on a different path and enforcing your version of vegan morality is a path to your own misery and suffering. Being vegan is about freeing yourself from the snake like instinctive response to strike whenever someone suggests a course of action different from the one you chose. Being vegan is about health, happiness, and harmony. Why are you so angry? Why do you care so much about what other people say?

The purpose of this particular discussion forum was intended to be about Sarah Palin's new book and how what SHE said is "ticking off" vegetarians and vegans, not what I said in response.
I responded to her comments by taking the old playground rules higher ground and having a thicker skin than to allow the ignorant or hurtful comments of someone else to upset me. Others have also commented on the frequency of similar statements our own families and friends have made about veganism and I am pretty sure that I am not alone in choosing to not get upset by those comments. I live my beliefs every day and feel confident in the choice I have made to be vegan. Some vegans may choose to try and convince all non vegans that they are on the wrong path, but I believe in self determination and I can only be responsible for changing myself.
moonbeam R. jumps in to the discussion over a month later and attacks me for not being upset and for not believing it is my job to preach the vegan morality to the world and reports me for abuse? What is abusive about choosing a path of peace and acceptance?
Being vegan is about harmony and peace between humans and our Mother Earth.
The last thing we need is for vegans to attack other vegans.
moonbeam R. You are obviously passionate and commited to your beliefs. This site is dedicated to open discussion and education through access to amazing information. You dedicated a great deal of emotion and expressed a great deal of anger in a public forum. Many non-vegetarians and non-vegans will eventually discover sites like this and the last thing we vegans should expose them to is negativity and condemnation of one vegan to another.
