My cholesterol came down from 270 to about 100 using 40mg of Vytorin. I was very concerned that it might be too low and cut the dosage in half. It then went to about 130 or so.
I was frightened by the change in the number, not by any actual physical symptom. Frightened by the power of the drug really and of my dependence on it and also by my complete reliance on the prescribing doctor. Who, it seemed, spent about 1 second listening to my story, before doing his prescribing. And on my lack of knowledge, happily now (slightly) remedied.
Many wasted hours on google later ... Remember when we used to get information from ... BOOKS. My library had about 8 good ones. Better information. Better organized. More trustworthy. Ornish, McDougall, Esselstyn and Dr. Campbell put their advice in books, not in web sites.
MUCH later, after reading The China Study by T. Colin Campell, he reported that some women in one Chinese county have average readings of total cholesterol as low as 80mg/ml (I believe). So I didn't have to worry and niether apparently do you, at least about the number.
Also later, after reading Esselstyn's book, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, his patients too reduced their cholesterol to well below 150. Eighteen of them to an average of about 130. Some have to have been at 110 so that others could squeak by at 145.
Now I believe a cholesterol level of 120 is ONLY low if you are used to (God-awful) cholesterol readings of 200-300 on the Western "suicide by fork and spoon" plan.
There are probably at least another 3 billion people in the world who say "Good for you. Still higher than us. Keep up the good work!"
Heart patients following Esselstein's diet eat no dairy, no meat, no fish and NO OIL. "I said NO OIL!!!" (Dr. E jokes on a video presentation by shouting, to get the message firmly embedded ;-) ).
Esselstyn's book could benefit the "100% of American men (who) have heart disease by age 60 and should be
treated as such."
