Two years ago at 45 I was diagnosed with CHD, high cholesterol, 300, and high blood pressure, 145/95. I was put on statins, beta blockers and ace inhibitors. With the help of this website I started to follow Ornish/Pinckney diet and embarked on regular exercise program. My weight has fallen from 220lbs to 160 -- ideal for my height and same weight I was when married at 26. My cholesterol fell too, even after coming off statins because of muscle pains. I posted on Dr. Pinckney's board a couple of months ago looking for help and support - which I received - because it seemed to have levelled off at 185. To cut a long story short, I persevered and last week blood test showed cholesterol has fallen to 142 (off the statins) below my 150 goal. As a result my cardiologist told me after having an exercise stress tests and echo cardiogram that I can stay off the statins and no longer have need for beta blockers or ace inhibitors. "Just keep doing what you are doing", he said. Blood pressure off medication is below 120/80, often below 110/75. I am not on here to blow my own trumpet but hope this can help somebody else out there. Reading the posts on Dr. Pinckney's board has helped me tremendously. Many thanks to Dr Pinckney and other posters who have helped me.

I am a 14 year old girl living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I feel so
alone in New Mexico; no one here that I know is a vegetarian, so I look to VegSource for support and friends. This website has given me so much; it's hard to believe that I've gotten this far. Everyone here is so supportive. I post messages daily and get back a lot of advice, recipes, and more. I absolutely love coming to this website everyday! I want to thank Sabrina and Jeff Nelson for making this website - if it weren't for you two, I wouldn't be a vegetarian today; I wouldn't be living this life I love! Thank you so much to all who gave me advice and helped me in the past! You all mean so much to me!

I love this website and I am addicted to the message boards. I have found some of the most fascinating information on this site. VegSource is truly one of the best, if not THE best, vegan/vegetarian orriented site on the net. You have something for everybody. Keep up the good work.

My story is similiar to thousands out there. I am 52 yrs old, grossly overweight, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure which are just some of my problems due to my unhealthy lifestyle. My New Years resolution was to become a vegetarian and on to veganism. Well in the short time since then, my doctor has told me that I won't need to go on medication for my blood pressure, I am loseing weight, my diabetes medication (metformin) has been cut in half and I will be soon off it totally. I would like to thank VegSource for all the timely information. You are my constant companion in encouraging me to see the light. You're never too old to change...thanks again.

I check your site daily for new postings on the Mad Cow Corral. I have learned more about nutrition from your website than I could have ever imagined. You have made my life a much healthier one! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I refer to your website quite frequently for information, recipes etc. I don't know what I would do if there were no sites like this. You have done an excellent job on putting this place together. It also tells me that we are not alone on our journey of veganism. We love you guys.

2 months ago, after comming across vegsource.com, I decided to become a vegetarian. I gave up all meat, dairy, and eggs. My main reason for becoming a vegetarian were the health benefits. A few months prior, I had suffered a stress fracture while training for a half-marathon. While this was probably due to over-training, the massive amounts of milk I was consuming probably didnt help either.

I'm now running again, and weight training 4 times a week. On top of that, the job I work is VERY labor intensive. However, the vegetarian lifestyle gives me all the energy I need, and then some. I've noticed my skin is less oily and I generally feel 'healthier'.

I've only strayed one time since becomming a vegetarian. It was my mom's birthday and she had chocolate birthday cake sitting on the kitchen table (chocolate birthday cake is to me what kryptonite is to superman). Live and learn!

I can't thank you enough for your website, which positively oozes sensible, informative and stimulating content. The first thing I do each morning after I log on is to visit VegSource. Congratulations on your great work!

Visiting your teriffic website each day is as beneficial as going to the gym. I always learn something since it is so full of info. Australia is so behind when it comes to vegetarianism sadly. I wish we had the range of food available to us as you guys enjoy. My hubby and I became vegan after coming across your site much to our doctor's horror. You have made the transition from lacto-ovo to vegan effortless for me (a little harder for hubby). Thanks for the info!

I converted to a vegetarian diet in October 2001, so I am a "new veggie". I do not eat any animal products, no chicken, no fish, no dairy.

I have suffered from colitis for 27 years. After reading online about vegetarian diets being used in the treatment of colitis, I went searching for information. I found VegSource. Your articles and information have helped me maintain not only a positive outlook towards my vegetarianism, but to develop a healthy eating plan, to supplement properly and most important to continue to read labels and identify those insidious animal products that infiltrate our food sources.

I have heard so many people say they were vegetarians once but they didn't have any energy so they started eating meat again. They obviously didn't have VegSource!

I have never felt better in my life not only physically, but emotionally. I have never had more energy. I have not had any symptoms of my colitis since October. A thousand thanks!

I LOVE Vegsource. I never thought I would become a vegetarian and originally logged into Vegsource for the homeschooling boards, but eventually got interested in the McDougall program. Now, I am eating a strict vegetarian diet and loving it! There is lots of information available on Vegsource!

This is my second week into the journey of becoming a vegetarian. I have been spending a lot of time on-line looking for recipes that my entire family will eat. Finding this site today reassured me that there is help out there and that I CAN do this!!!! I've been dealing with so many of the issues I see posted here-- An omni hubby and a toddler that I'm not sure how to take with me on this journey. All I know is that we all could stand to eat better. I would love to hear from anyone who would be willing to reach out and befriend a newbie. Sorry this is so long -- I'm just excited to meet you all!

I just want to thank you and your family for an extraordinarily informative web site.

I have been a vegetarian for almost 7 months. My wife is a vegetarian, too (she had been 95% veg since we met), and so is our baby who has just started on table foods. We are both relatively conservative, Republican-voting, deputy district attorneys; we definitely don't fit the old stereotypes about who goes veg.

I decided to give up meat after lots of reading about weight loss (I was about 20-30 lbs overweight) and nutrition. I have read several excellent books on the subject, many of which I learned about on Vegsouce.com. As a person with a family history of both heart disease and colon cancer, I was amazed to learn about the wonderful health benefits of a vegetarian diet.

Making the change was much easier than I ever imagined. Sticking to it has not been even remotely difficult. Your site is definitely the best veg site on the web. A+++

I have enjoyed reading lots of wonderful articles on this site. I became vegan over a year ago. My allergies have almost disappeared completely and the osteoarthritis that I have in my knees has been tremendously changed. My knees don't ache anymore. I feel so much better on this diet. So you see, your site and many articles have been very informative and helpful. Thank you.

Since I found this website earlier this year, it has enriched my life immensely. When I think of all I have learned from the news articles, opinion pieces, and Joanne's discussion board, I feel I have to say a big THANK YOU!! You all help make it fun, easy, and satisfying to be a vegan.

Becoming vegan is almost like "starting over!" But thanks to VegSource, the transition has been made easier for me, as I have a resource to go to for not only ideas, but intelligent explanations, studies, and research as to why this vegan life style is so crucial to our well being. Thank you so much for your efforts.

What a wonderful site. I was delighted to find it. I especially like the combination of activist issues, diet and lifestyle enhancement, objective science and youth-oriented features. Keep up the good work!

I've been a veg for 13 years, but I've recently learned more from this website than in all the research I've ever done. Being able to "talk" with others has made me healthier, happier, and less "alone." Thanks!!
-- Valntyn 10/1/00

I have not eaten meat for a while, but I still consume a lot of dairy products. Navigating through your site and some of your links convinced me that I should change my habits. Thank you.
-- Penido 10/19/00

I have faded in and out of vegetarianism for 14 years; at first because I was in college and it was cool. Your cogent, well-written articles, tireless research and compilation of worldwide source articles, and adorable photos of those kids convinced me for GOOD!
-- Holly 4/17/01

VegSource is like my Mecca. First thing I do each morning is turn on my computer and check in and see what's new in the veg world, and what everyone's doing.
-- Neal T. 8/1/00

When I knew I could no longer put off being vegan, a multiple hour research session into the wee hours of the morning on Vegsource finalized my decision. Vegsource rocks my world.... thank you so much!
-- Louisa 8/15/00

I love your web site, and I feel a part of a bigger family from reading your articles, and it gives me encouragement to continue with my committment to being a vegetarian. Keep up the good work!
