Convenience foods we love a lot!
by Sabrina Nelson

White Wave Chocolate Silk

White Wave is the soy milk market leader, and for good reason -- they produce delicious, innovative products! Chocolate Silk is low-fat, low-sugars, B-12 enriched, and dairy free. Yum!

Imagine Foods' Rice Dream Original Enriched

Imagine's Rice Dream is the perfect companion for cereal (soy milk can be too thick for cereal), smoothies and baked goods. This low-fat beverage also has a very long shelf life (doesn't need to be refrigerated before opening), so you can purchase a case without worrying about early spoilage.

Yves Veggie Macaroni and Yves Veggie Chili

Canadian company Yves Veggie Cuisine has several wonderful products, but there are two we regularly buy in bulk -- the Veggie Macaroni and the Veggie Chili. Both the macaroni and chili are sold fresh in the deli case, but we freeze them for longer term storage, and pop one into the microwave when we're ready to dine. Our kids love the macaroni, which travels quite well in a plastic container (they love to take what they call "Basagna" to picnics or the park), and the grown-ups (us!) eat the chili regularly with brown rice or potatoes, and a vegetable. The chili contains only one gram of fat, and 14 grams of fiber, so it is suitable for most diet plans. It's also much tastier than canned chili, which can retain a metallic flavor.

Chocolate Almond Clif Bar and Nutz Over Chocolate or Chocolate Pecan Pie Lunas

We've had to limit our kids' Clif Bar consumption to one a day, as our five year old boy would happily devour an entire box in a sitting if we allowed him to. Clif and Luna Bars are absolutely scrumptious and addictive vegan snacks, and perfect to throw into a backpack or lunchbag. We usually take a few for day-long treks to Disneyland, or to the movies (yes, we bring our own food to the movies!)

We buy these goods at our local Whole Foods by the case, where they give you a 10% discount for doing so. So we save some $$$, and have the ease of having some quick and easy convenience foods readily available in the house.
