I live in suburban Folsom, CA. We have a nesting mallard pair. They have a nest in the ivy near my pool. They were in the neighborhood about two weeks before we discovered the nest and 10 eggs. Unfortunately something has ravaged her nest as I just found 3 eggs broken. They were almost ready to hatch and I am not sure what has done this. I think it may have been rats or some other predatory bird, I see a lot of hawks nearby. I hope that the remaining eggs will survive. This is new behavior for our neighborhood.
