help! Help!

It started with two mallards coming on our lawn in suburban Massachusetts to eat bird seed from a feeder that birds use and spill lots of seed. Since we thought they were interesting, we started feeding them fine cracked corn, as we were told that would be good for them.
It seems to work really well, since they told their friends, and they told their friends, and on and on. Presently we have (conservately) 50 of the cuties arriving at dusk, staying for 20 minutes and leaving with very little feed left.
We have now been purchasing 3 50 Lb bags of corn each week and could probably add a couple of more.
Our problem is this... We are retired and on a limited budget and would like to stop feeding if it is possible in the dead of winter. Can we discontinue the feed now or do we have to wait until spring, when the ducks will have natural foods available?
There are ponds in the area but none really close by!
