Subject: Rescued goldfish

Hi all,
We just rescued a goldfish. She (she is called "she" but gender is actually unknown) is in a 10 gallon tank with a bigger filter added on. We wonder, given that we don't know the gender, whether there are other species she could co-exist with. (We worry she is lonely by herself.) She is about 4 inches long, not counting her very showy, big tail and fins. And would we have to get one that is the same size relatively? Or is there someway to add a friend goldfish without them reproducing? Is there a way to know what sex they are? (Please remember we know next to nothing about fish.) Would they both then need a bigger tank? Thanks in advance! Helen & Steve
