You know if the water is too warm, when the beta fish starts swimming continuously( dont think it's playing ) The beta fish is actually trying to find a cool spot in the tank or bowl..dying.... This is from experience, my fish went into shock( thought it was dead ) but i put it in a lukewarm water container to let it revived. It did! so be extra careful with the temp. I actually think they like 65 degrees water.lukewarm to the touch.. not warm..
