Yes, they jump. It is best to cover the tops of your bettas bowls, just make sure there are plenty of air holes in the top (not big enogh for the fish to fit through) If you leave plenty of space between the top of your betta bowl or tank and the top of the water, the betta will be less likely to jump out. I hope your betta survives, I would put some melafix or or stress coat to help him recover. I don't know what you mean by "fuzzy things" so I can't help you there.Here's a word of comfort ; I once had a gold fish that got out of his tank and actually landed in the garbage can, he lived for 11 healthy years after that.
