It is specifically the L-Carnitine and the Taurine that dogs simply don't absorb well via supplementation because there isn't the same chemical reaction. You don't have to feed a poor-quality dog kibble -- what you are saying about the poor quality meat sources is true of some of the cheaper brands, but there are many high-quality kibbles that use a human-quality meat source (I don't say that to be offensive, simply as a term of comparison), and some - even veg*ns like Lorrie above, feed a raw meat-based diet to the many dogs that come thru her rescue. She doesn't feed kibble, nor does she feed cooked meat, but a raw diet specifically designed for the dogs. Dog anatomy and human anatomy are very different, and altho humans are omnivores by choice, dogs are not. Dogs are omnivores ONLY if you help them be by helping process the vegetable matter. But they can not get from vegetarian foods what their bodies need. Yes, in "old days" dogs in Scotland starved right along with the humans, but today 6-8 is not considered a long life for a dog as it was then. The facts just don't bear that out.
