Subject:	my golden was abused training not working

hi there i have a 1 yr old golden retriever i got free from a lady who neglected him all the time.
Buddy isn't responding to training very well and he is terrified of going in the car and runs away as if he were ferral. he also has a hard time with listening he runs away. i am not sure on how to make him listen. he seems to be getting worse with his fears each day. can someone help me?
