My bf has a 3 year old airdale terrior who can't help but
take anything within his reach and run off with it. When he
is called he refuses to bring it back until you are able to
distract him with something else.
It is very frustrating as he has wrecked a few pairs of my
shoes and it has also cost him 1400 in surgery as he
swallowed a rock and also goes after things that could
potentially hurt him. He also bites at embers from a fire
and has started to bark at his toys.
I know the barking is probably just wanting attention and I
know dogs like to chew on almost anything but I don't want
to have to resort to tying him up when we go out camping or
having to make sure everything is out of his reach.
When we manage to get things back we show him the item and
tell him no, but he just cant be trusted to not do it again.
The dog is also very strong and hard to hold on to as he
likes to resist being reprimanded.
He is a smart dog though and I know with some solid
training it would stop but I am not sure what the best thing
to for this issue is.
