Good lord, I don't know if this reply is coming excetionally late, I assume yes, but I had to respond after reading this post. If anyone reads this is in a similar situation please follow at least some of my advice. Abused animal esp dogs are very difficult to train. Any trainer who thinks the right way is to force the animal into submission is absolutly wrong! I have experience with abused animals, and the best thing to do with them is to make them feel secure by offering them comfort care and leadership. Be patient and if your home isn't ultimatly suited for them take time in finding a more suitable home, someone with perhaps no other pet or children someone who has money and time to continue training, believe me these people exist although they will not just jump right out and grab you you must unfortiounatly do some searching. Please don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. Based on the level of abuse your dog may never fully recouperate. Be prepared for this. While becoming a loving pet is possible for nearly all rescues be aware that once an animal knows true unkindness they may never fully trust anyone anything oranywhere again. They may never be treated like a normal dog.
